Why Newspapers & DTP Studios Rely on Shree Lipi Fonts

Shree Lipi (by Modular Infotech) is used by all Marathi and Devanagari print journalists, publishers and ad agencies in Maharashtra, Goa and MP. Most of the Marathi publications and all major Marathi dailies like Lokmat, Sakal, Maharashtra Times, Pudhari, Tarun Bharat etc. have used Shree Lipi fonts for their publications. As a result, over the years, they have built an archive of publications using Shree Lipi fonts.

Mangal font (based on Unicode) is used on webpages. However, for programs like PageMaker 7.0, QuarkXPress, CorelDraw and Photoshop 7.0, traditional typesetting and page layout programs, Unicode and OpenType Fonts are of no use. Thus, there is a continuous need to use Shree Lipi fonts in publications. The Mangal fonts get converted to Shree Lipi fonts to get publications with high fidelity, perfectly kerned typography, and without any half characters or matras in incorrect positions.

SHREE-DEV-0714 (Body Font)

GOT QUESTIONS?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This page answers questions about using the font conversion tool and its limitations.

Why do Marathi newspapers use Shree Lipi and not Unicode?

In the case of typesetting Marathi in a newspaper using an automated typesetting system, a font that has ligatures for conjuncts and has a narrow character width is to be used. A font designed for a typesetting system usually has characters of a lower width and may have ligatures for conjuncts. Modular Infotech fonts are designed for typesetting systems and, therefore, provide characters of a lower width and other features that are useful in typesetting systems.
